Masters Tips: Gary Woodland

Has two top-30 finishes at Augusta and the tee-to-green game for the course. Won the Phoenix Open earlier this year. Third on tour for GIRs.

The field for the Masters is stacked with talent and a case can be made for any of those near the top of the market. With betting half the battle is finding a player who is overpriced and Gary Woodland has a better chance than his odds suggest.

Already a winner on tour, he won the Phoenix Open in February, he should carry plenty of confidence to Augusta and it’s a course that suits his game. Yes he’s missed his last two cuts but last year Augusta played much harder than usual and his overall record is 24-26-MC-MC.

Length off the tee is a big advantage at Augusta and Woodland sits 9th in driving distance on tour. Currently third on tour for GIRs, he’s enjoying an excellent ball-striking season and his putting is also holding up. His wedge play (50-125 yards) is still a weakness but if he can improve that area, just as stable mate Dustin Johnson did, he’ll be winning much more regularly.

At 125/1 with William Hill paying 1/5 odds and 7 places, he is a fair each-way bet.
