Turkish Open Tip: Matt Wallace
Enjoying a strong finish to the year with three top-10s in nine starts. Played well on the nearby Gloria course back in April.
The Turkish Airlines Open returns to Carya Golf and Spa Resort and there is a good field for this valuable event. It is a tournament that has produced decent winners over the years and I believe Matt Wallace can make the step up in grade.
I had the pleasure of following him round Walton Heath in US Open qualifying and despite a few distractions from the gallery he kept his composure to come through the playoffs. In regular play he was paired with Paul Dunne and there was little to separate them.
Already a winner on tour, Wallace took the co-sanctioned Open de Portugal earlier this year but it’s in the second half of the season where he’s really flourished. A fourth place at the Italian Open brought the biggest cheque of his career and he backed it up with a T18 at Valderrama.
Back in April he finished T25 on the nearby Gloria course and although a different venue, it’s cut on the same piece of land and is not dissimilar in style. This could be his week.
