Turkish Airlines Open Tips: Jamie Donaldson

Turkish Airlines Open Tips: Jamie Donaldson

Much more comfortable on the European Tour and runner-up here in 2013. Hitting GIRs could be key to success.

It is early days for the Turkish Airlines Open, we are only in the third edition but if the previous two are anything to go by, hitting greens will be crucial. Victor Dubuisson and Brooks Koepka hit over 80% of GIRs on the way to victory and the trend could continue this week.

After trying to crack the PGA Tour with mixed results, Jamie Donaldson is back amongst the familiar territory of the European Tour. The Welshman has won in each of the last three seasons and is a good bet to bag another title before the year is out.

Donaldson isn’t particularly long or straight off the tee, instead he’s all about hitting greens and letting his putting make the score. At the European Open and Dunhill Links he was in the top-10 for GIRs and that helped him secure top-20 finishes.

At the British Masters, we didn’t see the best of Donaldson but he can recapture his best form at the Maxx Royal, a course he’s played well before. He was runner-up at this event in 2013 and finished a respectable T19 last year. At 33/1 (BetVictor) he therefore rates a solid each-way bet.
