Turkish Airlines Open Tip: Callum Shinkwin

Callum Shinkwin has enjoyed a strong rookie season on the European Tour and with his card safely tucked away for next year anything he achieves in the Final Series can be viewed as a bonus. Winner of the English Amateur in 2013 (beating Matthew Fitzpatrick) he talent was well advertised at a young age but he’s now delivering.

In his last three starts he’s finished T38-T58-T17 and I was particularly impressed by his T58 at the Grove when he got a very late call and recovered from a slow start (+3 after 3) to make the cut.

Breaking 70 for four consecutive rounds in Portugal was another eye-catching effort and he backed it up with a solid all-round performance ranking inside the top-30 for driving, GIRs and putting.

Although this is Shinkwin’s first start in Turkey he spent his formative years in the UK and won the English Amateur at Frilford Heath. The Carya Resort might be more familiar than he expects and that could help him go well at 100/1.
