Travelers Championship Tip: Emiliano Grillo

Has a hot putter to go with his traditional excellence tee-to-green. Form this year is deserving of a win and he finished T43 on his first look at TPC at River Highlands.

There’s been an early move for Emiliano Grillo in the Travelers Championship and it’s easy to see way. The Argentinian has always been an elite ball-striker, he is ranked 22nd in strokes gained tee-to-green but now he’s got a hot putter and a win can’t be fair away.

Grillo was unfortunate to bump into an inspired Justin Rose and Brooks Koepka at Colonial but he pulled clear of the pack (six shots ahead of fifth) and a repeat performance would be good enough to win most PGA Tour events. This week the Travelers Championship is unusually strong but Grillo missed the weekend at the US Open and that might be a blessing in disguise.

The 25-year-old is enjoying an excellent season on the PGA Tour with five top-10 finishes already under his belt. This is largely fuelled by an improvement in putting, up to 11th in strokes gained compared to 139th last season. He’s been good on the greens for a while now, so i’m considering this a step-change rather than a flash in the pan.

Last year he finished T43 on his first look at the course but he was only nine shits behind the winner, so played better than his finishing position. At 50/1 (Coral) he is a cracking bet with 7 places at 1/5 odds.
