TPC Colorado Championship: Jordan Niebrugge

Ranked in the top-5 for driving accuracy and GIRs last week on way to a T29 finish and he pounds it off the tee. Averages 313-yards with driver and will need that on a 7991-yard course.

The TPC Colorado Championship is a new event on the Korn Ferry Tour and they are making at statement with the venue at Heron Lakes. TPC Colarado weigh in at 7,991 yards and that includes at 773 yard par-5! Aesthetically it is compared to a ‘Scottish links’, there is only one hole with trees on it and to my mind it’s more of a Chambers Bay type venue.

With something this long you’ve got to be looking at the big hitters and Jordan Niebrugge is a player i’ve been keeping tabs on. The 25-year-old finished T6 at the 2015 Open Championship at St. Andrews so he ticks the ‘Scottish links’ box. He also averages 313.3 yards off the tee, so the long course should play to his strengths.

It’s actually been a quietly impressive season for Niebrugge, certainly statistically. He ranks 10th for driving distance and 13th for GIR, unfortunately his excellent ball-striking is let down by the putter but h’es only missed two cuts in his last eight starts and is one good putting week away from contending.

He finished T25 at altitude in Colombia and ranked fifth for driving accuracy and fourth for GIRs on the way to a T29 finish last week. He looks the right fit for this course.
