Tournament of Champions Tips: Hunter Mahan
A multiple PGA Tour winner who is overpriced for a limited field event. Finished fifth in 2008.
Last year wasn’t Hunter Mahan’s best on tour but it was still exceptional by most people’s standards. He earned over $3million, finished sixth in the Fedex Cup, won the Barclays and featured in the Ryder Cup.
The second half of 2014 was inconsistent but he finished the year well with a T3 at the Frys.com Open.
All the hallmarks of Mahan’s game were evident in 2014. He ranked third for total driving, 18th for ball-striking and a respectable 57th for strokes gained putting.
The 32-year-old is entering his prime and I’m sure he’ll strike again in 2015.
This will be his fourth visit to Kapalua, with a best of fifth in 2008. At 25/1 (Sportingbet) he makes each-way appeal with ¼ odds for a top-4 finish.
