Tour Championship Tips: Jordan Spieth

Won at East Lake last year and his ability to fashion as score can see him finish in style.

Thirty of the world’s best golfers travel to East Lake this week for the final event of the Playoffs. The quality is high but in a limited field there aren’t many pockets of value. From a punting perspective it’s best to keep stakes to a minimum, especially when it’s difficult to look beyond the obvious names.

Past champions at East Lake have all fashioned a score on a testing layout. Four of the last five winners finished the season inside the top-25 for scoring average and bogey avoidance and that is the route I’m going down again.

Jordan Spieth is currently 19th in bogey avoidance helped in large part by his magnificent short game and putting. He won this event 12 months ago and looks primed to go close again.

The 23-year-old was unable to add further major honours to his CV this season but he’s won twice and has a couple of top-tens during the Playoffs.  His record at the course is 2-27-1 and should go close again at 10/1 (Betfred) with ¼ odds for a top-4 finish.
