The Players Championship Tips: Russell Knox

Ranked first in proximity to the hole with approach shots and has the ideal game for TPC Sawgrass.

The Players Championship isn’t an easy tournament for a debutant to win but Russell Knox might turn the stats on their head.

The Scot is trying to emulate Sandy Lyle’s win in 1987 and he’s got the ideal game for TPC Sawgrass.

Knox fits the two obvious trends of adjusted scoring average (ranked 16th) and sand save percentage (27th) but he is also the only player to fit a more obscure pattern at Sawgrass.

The last eight winners of the Players Championship ranked inside the top-60 on tour for proximity of approach shots from 125-175 yards, seven of which also ranked in the top-60 from 200+ yards.

Russell Knox falls into this category and is ranked top in proximity to the hole for all his approach shots this season.

If the 28-year-old has a reasonable week on the greens then he could gain his first tour win at one of the most famous courses in golf. Back Knox each-way at 125/1 (Betfred) and get ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
