Players Championship Tips: Zach Johnson

Runner-up in 2012 and encouraging T14 at Quail Hollow last week, on a course that is too long for him.

At the turn of the year, Zach Johnson was the hottest player on the planet. He won the Mutual World Challenge and Tournament of Champions to go with a host of top-10 finishes.

The 38-year-old was always going to cool off but a T14 at the Wells Fargo suggests he’s back on an upwards curve.

Quail Hollow was always likely to be too long for Johnson, one of the shortest hitters on tour; therefore his good finish deserves marking up.

TPC Sawgrass is much more his type of course and that is evident in his results. Johnson finished second in 2012 and has five further top-25 finishes at the venue.

Underestimated by the bookmakers, he is a good each-way bet at 40/1 (Betfred) with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
