Players Championship Tips: Shane Lowry

Finished T16 last year but was going much better at the halfway stage. Putter started to heat up on last couple of starts.

It took Shane Lowry a while to get over his loss in the US Open last year but the new season herald’s new opportunity and this Irishman is starting to hit form.

Lowry is 7/9 in cuts made on the PGA Tour this season and although he is still searching for his first top-10 there have been positive signs on his last two starts at the RBC Heritage and Wells Fargo with T44-T24 finishes respectively.

At both events, he gained strokes on the field putting and it’s good to see confidence in the putter returning because that has been his weakness over the years.

Last season Lowry finished T16 at The Players but he started on fire with opening rounds of 65-68 before his putting fell apart over the weekend. A brutal start of bogey-bogey-double bogey-bogey on Saturday cost him any chance of winning.

Twelve months on and her returns in a similar vein of form, going along nicely without showing his hand. A WGC winner and contender in a major suggests he is capable at this level and he is a big price. Back Lowry with Betfred and get 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
