7th May 2014 | The Players Championship

Let Off The Leish

Finished T8 last year and his superb wedge play can put him in contention.

In the last ten editions of the Players Championship, there have been six non-American winners and Marc Leishman can continue the tradition of oversees champions.

The Australian finished T8 last year and was in contention for the win on Sunday until a double-bogey on the fifth hole scuppered his chances.

The 30-year-old started the year strongly with top-5 finishes at the Sony Open and Farmers Insurance Open and although he has gone off the boil since, he has the ability to win a big tournament on the PGA Tour.

He finished T4 at last year’s Masters and was leading early into round two this year before the wheels came off in difficult scoring condition.

Leishman’s strength is his wedge play. He ranks second in approach shots from 125-150 yards and has incredible distance control with his irons.

Having previously played well at TPC Sawgrass he is a good each-way bet at 150/1 (Skybet) with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
