RSM Classic Tip: Trey Mullinax
Practices at Sea Island, this week’s host venue and finished T25 last year whilst still a member of the Web.com Tour.
The RSM Classic visits Saint Simons Island, Georgia this week - a place many professional golfers call home. Davis Love III, Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar are amongst the famous names that use Sea Island Golf Performance Centre but it’s also a great breeding ground for the next generation.
Trey Mullinax has been touted as the next big star in this column (many times) and is another resident of Sea Island. This is his rookie season therefore most venues will be new to him but not this week; he will have played the Plantation and Seaside Course numerous times in practise.
The RSM Classic is actually one of the few PGA Tour events Mullinax has played before, finishing a highly creditable T25 last year.
Fairways and greens are relatively easy to find on both the Plantation and Seaside layouts. The field averaged over 71.65% for both fairways and GIRs last season, making them amongst the six easiest courses on tour, tee-to-green.
That should help Mullinax who has been wayward off the tee but putting well (36th in strokes gained). If he stays hot on the greens he could be set for a big week at 150/1 (Sky Bet).
