RSM Classic Tip: Ryan Blaum

RSM Classic Tip: Ryan Blaum

Hasn’t finished worse than T31 in his last six starts. Not long but an excellent putter and has a similar game to last year’s winner Kevin Kisner.

Without a win in 99 Web.com or PGA Tour starts, I’d consigned Ryan Blaum to the ‘journeyman’ bin but I’m having to quickly revise my conclusion given his hot start to the 2016/17 season.

The 33-year-old might just be a late developer and can scarcely have enjoyed a better run of form. In his last six starts he’s finished 5-18-26-11-31-15 a run that has straddled the Web.com Finals and the start of the new PGA Tour season.

Ranked inside the top-25 for strokes gained putting and adjusted scoring average, his game is firing in the right places for the RSM Classic. Putting was his strong suit on the Web.com Tour and his overall game (not long but accurate) is similar to that of last year’s champions Kevin Kisner.

A two-time winner on the LatinoAmerica Tour offers evidence (at a lower level) that he can get over the line and he is underestimated at 80/1 Sky Bet.
