RSM Classic: Nick Taylor

Sound all-round game suits Sea Island and playing some nice stuff with three consecutive top-30 finishes. Fits the profile of past winners of being solid rather than spectacular.

The RSM Classic is the last PGA Tour event proper of 2019 but we can go out on a high. Nick Taylor is without a top-3 finish since his win at the Sanderson Farms in 2014 but Sea Island looks made for him.

Without knowing the man himself, statistically Nick Taylor is ‘boring’. He putts reasonably well but otherwise there is nothing standout to his game. The same goes for his results; he’s made 21/28 cuts but only has one top-10 finish. Nothing to get excited about but boring works this week. Look through the past winners CH3, Austin Cook, Mackenzie Hughes, Kevin Kisner, Robert Streb, Chris Kirk, Ben Crane… none set the pulses racing.

Boring is fine. Drive it reasonably well, don’t make many mistakes and hole some putts. Sounds simple and well withing Taylor’s capabilities. He’s playing well of late, with three top-30 finishes on the spin and was T9 for GIRs in Mexico last week.

The excitement is backing him at 100 with Betfair paying 8 places at 1/5 odds.
