The Masters Tips: Gary Woodland

The Masters Tips: Gary Woodland

Has the power and capable of lighting it up round Augusta. Was 7-under through 10 holes on Saturday last year.

It is a case of déjà-vu for our first Masters tip, like last year I am loading up on Gary Woodland and at exactly the same price.

To win at Augusta you have to be long and that won’t be an issue for Woodland who averages 305 yards off the tee.

The 30-year-old isn’t just a statistical fit, he’s also got form at the course. He finished T24 in 2011 on debut and T26 last year but things could have been even better.

Woodland was 7-under through 10 holes on Saturday and got himself to 4-under for the tournament. That would have been good enough for a top-5 finish but he gave too many shots back.

Unfortunately, that is what you get with Woodland, brilliance interspersed with a bout of mediocrity.

At the turn of the year, when he was firing in top-10 finishes, I was convinced Woodland would win the green jacket.

He’s cooled since then but a couple of recent top-30s are encouraging and you cannot go wrong at 100/1 (Betfair Sportsbook) with ¼ odds for a top-7 finish.
