The Barclays Tips: Luke List

The Barclays Tips: Luke List

Big hitters have gone well in the past at Bethpage Black and his T14 in Canada gave us a glimpse of his potential.

Luke List eventually stumbled over the line finishing 121st in the regular season FedEx Cup Standings and securing a tour card for 2016/17. This was down in large part to the T14 finish at the Canadian Open and now the pressure is off perhaps he can recapture the form that saw him play in the penultimate group on Saturday.

The fact he played his worst round when paired with Dustin Johnson is forgivable given the circus that follows the US Open champion and I was pleased to see List bounced back with a closing 67.

That gave us a glimpse of his talents and although there have been only fleeting reminders since anyone who averages 307-yards off the tee is a threat.

Ranked in the top-60 on tour for adjusted scoring average, List arguably hasn’t got the results his play deserves. This is only his second full season on the PGA Tour so there is plenty of time for an adjustment to occur.

Past leaderboards at Bethpage Black have been littered with big hitters, Lucas Glover was champion in 2009 plus the aforementioned Johnson finished T3 in 2012.

It’s a bit of a stretch but List is a lively outsider at 500/1 (Paddy Power) with 1/5 odds for a top-7 finish.
