The Barclays Tips: Bubba Watson

Bubba Watson is often pigeon-holed as a ‘horses for courses’ player with his best results coming at the same venues. The layers obviously don’t think Bethpage Black is one of them because he is available at 50/1 even accounting for the strength of the field.

Bubba’s record at the New York course is entirely respectable with finishes of T18-T10 and although he’s struggled to replicate his early season form in the second half of the campaign, he woke up with a T8 at the Olympics last week.

A trip to Rio might have been then mental reset that he needed and there’s still plenty to play for in the next couple of months.

Statistically there is loads to like about the 37-year-old, he hasn’t missed a cut all season and is eighth in strokes gained tee-to-green. Putting has been a problem for the two-time major champion but Bethpage Black is more of a ball-striking test.

At 50/1 (Betfred) he looks at least 10 points too big and is a good each-way bet.
