Northern Trust Tip: Jason Day
Finished T5 and T2 on last two visits to Ridgewood Country Club. Currently leads the tour in the strokes gained putting and has finished in the top-20 in his last four outings.
Jason Day is a frustrating player to back because he often flatters to deceive and then some mystery ailment crops to excuse the performance and the cycle starts again. However, looking at his record it is pretty impressive. Since the start of 2015 his strike rate is 10/75 and he arrives in form after a run of four consecutive top-20 finishes.
After hitting 17/18 greens in his opening round of the PGA Championship it looked like he’d make a charge for the title but his ball-striking got progressively worse and he had to settle for a T19 instead.
The Northern Trust returns to Ridgewood Country Club and that is great news for the Australian. On his last two visits he finished T5 (2010) and T2 (2014), whilst he also won the tournament in 2015 when played at Plainfield Country Club.
Currently the leader on tour for strokes gained putting - Jason Day can finish the season strongly by winning the first event in the Playoffs.
