The recipe for success at the Ellie Mae Classic is fairly simple. Drive the ball a long way and make some putts. Last year Stephan Jager burnt up TPC Stonebrae with an opening round of 58 but the bombers were still present with players like Brandon Hagy high on the leaderboard.
Go back a couple of years and you have Si-Woo Kim and Tony Finau winning with Jamie Lovemark and Daniel Berger finishing runners-up. If this trend persists then Tom Lovelday has an outstanding chance of winning.
The 24-year-old’s strength is two-fold. He is third in driving distance average 325-yards off the tee and he is fourth in putting average. Lovelady also arrives in form with finishes of 11-13-7-5 in his last four starts and he must be set for another big week.
