Sony Open Golf Tips: Ryan Palmer
Enjoyed a productive 12 months with the putter. The 2010 champion has past experience to call upon.
We noted in our trends article how experience is key in the Sony Open; therefore Ryan Palmer must have a chance of repeating his 2010 victory at Waialae.
The big hitting Texan enjoyed one of his best years on the greens in 2012, ranking 25th for strokes gained putting. It is therefore a surprise that he didn’t add to his three PGA Tour victories.
There were several near misses when Palmer enjoyed a purple patch last summer, with four top-10 finishes in a five-tournament stretch. If he can recapture that level of form he should return to the winners circle in 2013. At 50/1 (Sportingbet) he looks overpriced, with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
