Sony Open: Patton Kizzire

Won here in 2018 and only once over par in twelve competitive rounds at Waialae CC. Finished 2020 making six consecutive cuts and form is on the upturn, fuelled by a reliable putter.

The market has taken a strong look at those who played last week at the Tournament of Champions and whilst that is an advantage there are still other factors to take into account - like past champions.

Patton Kizzire won here in 2018 and his record at Waialae Country Club is excellent. His scoring record is 68-70-67-64-64-68-67-68-67-65-70-74. In twelve competitive rounds, only once has he shot over par and that was 12 months ago and during that period he wasn’t shooting good scores anywhere!

I’m pleased to report an upturn in his fortunes and he finished last year (started the new season) with finishes of MC-41-59-24-11-10-32, largely fuelled by some excellent putting. He will need to rely on the flat stick again but when he won here in 2018 he produced his best putting performance of the season.

Clearly this type of grass and a coastal venue suit his game, he won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in 2017 and has a top-10 at the Tournament of Champions.

At 80/1 he is a good bet with Betfair paying 8 places at 1/5 odds.
