10th Jan 2022 | Sony Open

Sony Open: Lee Hodges

Is 10/12 in cuts made for PGA Tour career and this relative short hitter gains strokes on and around greens. Done well at tougher, wind affected venues on Korn Ferry Tour and not discounted.

The first full field event of 2022 is upon us with the Sony Open and i’m going big, straight out of the gate. I think this tournament is too unpredictable, so focus is on the bottom of the market and Lee Hodges takes the eye.

A Korn Ferry Tour graduate, he earned his stripes with consistent golf, enough for him to finish 5th in the all around rankings. Unusually he’s a slightly old-fashioned golfer in that he’s not long off the tee but makes his score by hitting fairways and pairing it with a demon short game on and around the greens.

That type of game saw him close 2021 with finishes of 45-27-71-46-57 and for his career he is 10/12 in cuts made on the PGA Tour. Quite a few of them; RSM Classic (2), Puerto Rico Open, Corales have come by the sea so he shouldn’t be fazed if the wind blows at Waialae Country Club.

His best results on the Korn Ferry Tour came on the more challenging courses (third in Panama Championship also reads well) and he’s already proving he has a game to suit the PGA Tour when away from the ‘grip it and rip’ it venues.
