Shriners Hospitals Open Trends

The new PGA Tour season continues with a visit to Las Vegas for the Shriners Hospitals Open for Children. We look at the trends of past champions.

Having previously been played across multiple courses, this is the tenth year TPC Summerlin has been the sole host and it always produces on of the easiest events on tour. The average winning score is 20-under and it was the second easiest par-71 on tour in 2012. With large greens, bunkers offer the only defence; the key to winning in the desert is to take the birdies on offer.

With twelve years of form to go on, let us look at the trends of past winners.

Top-60 in birdie average
With an average winning score of -20, if you can’t make birdies you have no chance. Ten of the last twelve winners ranked in the top-60 on tour for birdie average.

Top-60 in par 5 scoring
Players have to take care of the long holes, three par-5s and a driveable par-4 are all excellent birdie opportunities. Seven of the last twelve winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour for par-5 scoring.
