Scottish Open Tips: Padraig Harrington

Finished T30 in Paris but ranked in the top-10 for ball-striking and putting. Proven links pedigree.

When it comes to links golf there aren’t many better in the field than Padraig Harrington. A two-time winner of the Open Championship, he is equipped for whatever the weather throws at him.

The 44-year-old has seemingly been on the downgrade for the past few years but he showed the fire still burns when a surprise winner of the Honda Classic last season.

His 2016 has been solid rather than spectacular but there are signs that Harrington is running into form. He finished T9 at the ISPS Handa Global Cup and followed it up with a T30 in the French Open.

His performance at Le Golf National was better than it appeared because he ranked tenth for ball-striking and ninth in putts per GIR. A couple of uncharacteristic mental errors undermined an otherwise strong showing and he finished like a train with a final round 67.

Harrington’s record at Castle Stuart reads T14-T16-MC and a proven links winner shouldn’t be 110/1 (Betfred) with 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
