Golf Outsider: Scottish Open 2013

It is the final European Tour event before the Open Championship and our long shots expert highlights three players at big prices.

Castle Stuart is supposed to act as a warmup for the Open but the Scottish links course is regarded as one of the easiest around and in the last two years the scoring has reflected that.

Luke Donald got to 15-under after three rounds in 2011, whilst Jeev Milkha Singh won with a score of 17-under last year.

Peter Uihlein enjoyed a stellar US amateur career but took the brave decision to start his journey as a professional in Europe. The 23-year-old is reaping the reward as he is playing regularly and gaining valuable experience. He won the Madeira Open in May and has eight further top-25 finishes from just 13 starts.

Two weeks ago Robert Rock earned us some place money at 125/1 in the Irish Open and I’m surprised to seem him the same price so soon. The Englishman finished T31 in the 2011 Scottish Open but after an opening 75, he bounced back in fine style shooting 65-66 in his final two rounds.

Matthew Baldwin grew up playing links golf and that showed with his T5 at last year’s Scottish Open. The 27-year-old returns to Castle Stuart in good form with a couple of recent top-25 finishes in the BMW International and the Lyoness Open.
