Stan And Deliver

Finished last season with a string of good results on the web.com tour and ball-striking was on song at the Shiners Open.

A fortnight ago all eyes were on Smylie Kaufman as our 250/1 selection won the Shriners Open, however he wasn’t the only player I was keeping a close track of.

Kyle Stanley is an absurdly talented golfer who has gone through some lean times but he is back in the big league and a player to watch.

The 27-year-old made his name in 2012 when bouncing back from disappointment at Torrey Pines to win the following week in Phoenix. That victory should have launched his career but a change in equipment manufactures plus swing alterations saw his results dwindle.

However, a break from the game seems to have done him the world of good and his results last season were encouraging, with four top-20s in his last five starts on the web.com tour.

He started his PGA Tour season with a T43 at the Shriners Open but tee-to-green his game was in good shape, he just struggled on the greens losing a stroke per round to the field putting.

Stanley has always been a streaky putter, even at the best of times but his ball striking is so good all he needs is an average week on the greens to contend.

At last year’s Sanderson Farms Championship, he missed the cut by one shot but that was mainly down to a +4 front nine on Friday.

His game is in much better shape this time round and is a good each-way bet at 66/1 (Stan James).
