Sanderson Farms Championship: Tyler McCumber

Started year as one of the players to beat on Korn Ferry Tour but form ebbed away in summer. Encoruaging T47 last week and has excellent strike-rate of 6/115. Massive hitter in mould of Cameron Champ.

I always like to exploit my knowledge (and edge) early in the season by backing promising Korn Ferry Tour graduates. A couple of the three ‘S’s showed their hands last week and messers Shelton and Scheffler are now a fraction of a price they were. Chase Seiffert still has plenty of juice in his price but he’s gone off the boil lately so i’m going with another Korn Ferry fav in the shape of Tyler McCumber.

McCumber starter the year with three top-10 finishes in four starts which saw him priced up most weeks as favourite on the Korn Ferry Tour, injury and a loss of form created a quiet summer but his early exploits were enough to earn graduation and he is a player to keep on side. Like last year’s winner, Cameron Champ, he is one of the longest off the tee but there is plenty to his game.

In 2018 he was a three time winner on the PGA Tour Canada, a tour where you almost elusively deal in birdies and eagles. Aggressive can work well at Country Club of Jackson where the winning score is usually around the 20-under mark.

McCumber warmed up with an encouraging T47 at the Greenbrier, a good showing without alerting the bookmakers too much. That’s now six of the past seven weekends he has made and i’m happy to take a big price on a player who knows how to close, with 6 wins in 115 professional starts.
