Sanderson Farms Championship Trends

The Sanderson Farms Championship returns to the Country Club of Jackson for a fifth time and if we collate the statistics of the top-5 finishers, two trends emerge.

The Sanderson Farms Championship returns to the Country Club of Jackson for a third year in a row but sat opposite a WGC event it contains a weaker field. From a betting perspective that is no bad thing with outsiders Nick Taylor and Peter Malnati taking the last two editions.

The scoring is generally good on the par-72 course with 32 players finishing on double digits under par last season and the winner on 18-under.

Because CC of Jackson is a new venue on tour trends are thin on the ground but if we look at the top-5 and ties from the past two seasons some patterns emerge.

Top-60 on tour for bogey avoidance
Of the 12 players featured, 7 ranked in the top-60 on tour for bogey avoidance with a median rank of 35. Peter Malnati dropped six shots on the way to victory last year but only ranked T30 for the tournament, that means there we players making even fewer bogeys. Avoiding unnecessary mistakes is crucial.

Top-60 on tour for par 4 scoring
Of the 12 players featured, 7 ranked in the top-60 on tour for par 4 scoring with a median rank of 41. It might not appear the strongest of trends but in a weak field it might be significant. The likes of William McGirt, Aaron Baddeley and Roberto Castro were in the top-5 last year and finished the season ranked inside the top-20 on tour for par 4 scoring average.

Players that fit both trends
Russell Henley 35/1
Lucas Glover 50/1
Tim Wilkinson 66/1
