6th Jun 2018 | Rust Oleum Championship

Rust-Oleum Championship Tip: Brian Campbell

This tougher course should suit a player whose game relies on accuracy. Finished T4 last week and T9 on last visit to Ivanhoe Club.

The Rust-Oleum Championship serves as a warm-up for the US Open for several on the Web.com Tour and Ivanhoe Club does a good job of preparing it’s participants for the major test. Regarded as one of the tougher courses on tour, it often plays firm and fast and cannot be overpowered.

Past winners have included Stephan Jager, Shane Bertsch and Steven Alker and all are more accurate then they are long. With Ted Potter Jr, John Mallinger and Dawie van der Walt fillign runners-up spot the wily veterans (in relative terms on this young tour) have held the edge.

Brian Campbell doesn’t fall into that age category but he’s built up plenty of experience including on the PGA Tour last season. Not all of it was good, he finished 180th on the money list btu he’s found some form down in grade in the past month. In his last five starts he’s finished 63-36-14-MC-4 and he finished T9 at the Rust-Oleum in 2016.

Ranked 11th in driving accuracy and 7th in GIRs he should enjoy this week’s test and his T27 finish at the US Open is further evidence that he enjoys a firm test.
