Rex Hospital Open Tips: J J Spaun
Best suited to low scoring events and third for GIRs in the two US tournaments that have featured on tour so far.
For three days J J Spaun hung around the lower reaches of the leaderboard at the ULF Championship and even though my attention was focused on Cody Gribble, his final round 67 didn’t go unnoticed.
A T26 finish was entirely respectable and Spaun has strung together a good series of results with finishes of T7-MC-T17-T34-T26 in his last five starts.
Having topped the money list on the PGA Tour Canada last season big things were expected of the 25-year-old and he looks capable of delivering.
So far this season Spaun has saved his best play for the two US-based tournaments; he ranks third for GIRs (79%) and eleventh in ball striking.
TPC Wakefield Plantation is conducive to low scoring and Spaun is suited to a shoot-out. In 12 PGA Tour Canada events last season he was an aggregate 145-under par. At 80/1 (Skybet) he is a cracking each-way bet.
