RBC Heritage Tips: Ian Poulter

Threw away a winning opportunity at the Honda Classic but his strong iron play should be rewarded on a tough course.

In four visits to Harbour Town, Ian Poulter is yet to finish higher than T36 but it’s a course that should suit his game.

Long hitters aren’t at an advantage, Matt Kuchar averaged just 268.5 yards off the tee last year. Instead the focus is on iron play.

This is where the Englishman excels. He is ranked inside the top-50 in strokes gained tee-to-green, GIRs and proximity to the hole with approach shots.

Ally this with his strong putting and we have a recipe for success.

Poulter enjoyed a strong weekend at Augusta and it wasn’t that long ago that he finished T3 at the Honda Classic.

It was a tournament he should have won. His iron play was dialled in for four days until from nowhere he started finding the water and his challenge collapsed.

Overall, his game is in good shape and I expect a bold showing at 22/1 (Bet365).
