Quicken Loans National Tips: Roberto Castro
Runner-up at Congressional in 2013 and his second place at the Wells Fargo suggests he is back to his best.
Roberto Castro might not be a flashy player but he is a very good one and returning to his peak. In 2013 he made it all the way to the Tour Championship, finishing 21st in the FedEx Cup and after a couple of fallow years he is back.
So far this season he has five top-25s but the highlight was easily his second place at the Wells Fargo. On a course that is plenty long enough for a player ranked 160th in driving distance he showed great tenacity and no little skill to make the playoff. The extra holes didn’t go his way but he lost nothing in defeat.
A terrific player tee-to-green (ranked 29th) he should relish the tough examination at Congressional and his course record is good. He was runner-up in 2013, sandwiching finishes of T29-T30 on his two other visits.
A T11 at Memorial suggests he’s still in form and having missed the US Open he should be raring to go. Back Castro each-way at 50/1 with Paddy Power and get 1/5 odds for a top-7 finish.
