Quicken Loans National Tips: Kevin Chappell

Still looking for his first tour win but gone close on several occasions this season and stood up reasonably well to the pressure.

So soon after the US Open, players at the Quicken Loans National can expect another stern test at Congressional. The winning score in 2014 was 4-under and the average winning score when hosting this event is 9.6-under. Kevin Chappell isn’t fazed by a difficult course, if anything the harder the better.

The 29-year-old is still looking for his first tour win but he is getting ever closer. So far this season he has five top-10s and been runner-up on three separate occasions.

Still a maiden in 158 starts there are question marks surrounding his ability to close out tournaments but he’s broken 70 in the final round all three times he’s finished second.

Chappell’s record at the Quicken Loans Nationals is a solid 58-28-55 but that doesn’t take into account his T3 finishes at Congressional in the 2011 US Open.

Tee-to-green there aren’t many better on tour (ranked 10th) and as Dustin Johnson proved past failure isn’t necessary a barrier to future success. Back Chappell each-way at 40/1 (Paddy Power) and get 1/5 odds for a top-7 finish.
