Qatar Masters: Victor Perez

Regular winner at a lower level who looks capable of making the step up in grade. Record in the desert this winter is 54-29-13-61 and this one of the weaker field he's faced.

Victor Perez has once in each of the past three calendar years and is the type of player who can progress through the ranks and win on the European Tour. Already up to number 128 in the world, he is actually the 17th highest ranked player in the field; when you consider Tom Lewis is top-ranked at 57, there isn’t much to be scared of in opposition.

Perez won the Foshan Open at the back-end of 2018 and hasn’t done much wrong since then. He hasn’t missed a cut since the Porsche Open last summer and his record in the desert this winter is 54-29-13-61 with those results coming in stronger fields.

Statistically he also looks good. He is ranked 8th for scoring averages on the European Tour, if you only count those who have completed at least 16 rounds, which admittedly isn’t many.  He is 13th for strokes gained tee-to-green if you apply the same criteria.

When it comes to European Tour statistics, they should be taken with a pinch of salt but the overall picture is of a golfer playing well, with results to show for it.

This is Perez’s debut at Doha GC but given the good form he’s shown in neighbouring states, he should cope with conditions.
