Qatar Masters: Thorbjorn Olesen

Qatar Masters: Thorbjorn Olesen

Has two top-3 finishes in Doha and warmed up nicely with a T29 finish in Abu Dhabi.

In my write up for Romain Langasque, I discussed how the Qatar Masters honours board features similar names to that of an Open or Dunhill Links Championship and Thorbjorn Olesen fits the bill.

Winner of the 2015 Alfred Dunhill Links (runner-up in 2012), he relishes the test of links golf and that ability to control trajectory and play in the wind is a big help in Doha.

The Qatar Masters is normally the windiest of the three tournaments in the desert swing but that doesn’t faze the big hitting Dane. The 27-year-old’s record in Doha is MC-56-22-3-MC-2 and although his overall profile is streaky he knows how to win.

A four-time winner on the European Tour, the most recent of those victories came at the Turkish Open late last year. He started 2017 with an encouraging T29 in Abu Dhabi and can build on that finish in Qatar. At 35/1 (BetVictor) he is a good each-way bet.
