Puerto Rico Open: Tyler McCumber

Won three times on LatinoAmercia Tour and can put experience of the conditions to good use. T32-T21 on last two starts in much stronger events and this big hitter has the game to win on tour.

The PGA Tour visits Puerto Rico with a weakened field due to the WGC Mexico but it presents an excellent betting opportunity. It’s not often the PGA Tour ventures outside the United States and that gives an edge to the well travelled golfer.

Tyler McCumber hails from Florida but he’s made name away from the USA with all six of his professional wins coming on foreign shores. He is a 3-time winner on the PGA Tour Canada but more interestingly he has 3 wins on the LatinoAmerica Tour. Conditions this week are therefore likely to suit him; go back a few years and he finished T18 on his PGA Tour debut just across that water in the Dominican Republic at the Corales Championship.

Martin Trainer won twelve months ago when all facets of his game came together and Tony Finau blasted his way to victory in 2016 to suggests that long hitters do get on well at Coco Beach - just as well as McCumber is 8th on tour for driving distance.

Another positive is the improvement in putting from the 28-year-old. He can be streaky but has gained strokes putting on his last two starts and was on the fringes of contending for the Farmers Insurance Open two starts back.

A T32 at Pebble Beach was further evidence of his good form and in a field that lacks strength in depth he should feel comfortable with the challenge this week.
