Portugal Masters Tip: Callum Shinkwin
Has finished 48-65-20-16 on his last four starts and is 2/2 in cuts made in Vilamoura. Ball-striking has been excellent for a while now just needs a good week with the putter.
Forgive the Americanism but for want of a better phrase, Callum Shinkwin is trending in the right direction. On his last four starts he’s finished 48-65-20-16 and it’s not going to take much more before he cracks the top-10.
Dig a little deeper into the statistics and there is plenty of good news. For those last four starts he’s ranked 30-18-7-37 for GIRs and he just needs to marry a good week putting to his prodigious long game. That’s been the common theme at Vilamoura over the years; Bjerregaarad, Harrington and Sullivan all caught fire on the greens for their wins, ranking in the top-3 in putts per rounds.
Predicting who will get hot is the challenge but hitting greens creates the birdie opportunities and that is half the battle. Shinkwin spurned a good opportunity on the Sunday at the Made In Denmark but if he keeps getting into position then eventually he will convert.
