Portugal Masters: Alejandro Canizares
Excellent putter capable of some blisteringly low rounds. Has 8 top-25 finishes this season and no signs of cooling off yet.
Alejandro Canizares doesn’t win nearly as often as he should (2 wins in 265 starts) but statistically he is an excellent fit for the Portugal Masters. The winning score at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course is usually around the 20-under mark and Canizares’s two European Tour wins have been on 19-under and 22-under.
The Spaniard isn’t long but is an excellent putter, ranked fifth in putts per GIR this season. His record at the Portugal Masters is uninspiring with a T26 his best finish in eight attempts but he arrives in good form.
Canizares recorded solid top-50 finishes at the British Masters and Dunhill Links but it wasn’t that long ago that he fired three top-10s in four starts on the European Tour.
At 66/1 (Paddy Power) he is a good each-way bet with 1/5 odds for a top-7 finish.
