Portland Open: Charlie Saxon

Starting to find best form; ranked in top-10 for driving distance and accuracy on last start; led field for GIRs on penultimate start. Has course experience with T15 last year.

Charlie Saxon is a player I earmarked for a big season on the Korn Ferry Tour and although it’s taken him a while to heat up he is ready to explode. He skipped last week’s Pinnacle Bank, a good move because I doubt Indian Creek suits his game and that means he arrives at the Portland Open flying under the radar.

His last four starts have produced finishes of 17-MC-9-48 but that tells half the story. On his last start he ranked 6th for driving distance and third for accuracy and on his penultimate start he ranked first for GIRs. That suggests his ball-striking is in fine fettle and we are just waiting for the putter to heat up.

In further good news, Saxon finished T15 at Pumpkin Ridge last season having been well placed at the half-way stage. He can put that experience to good effect and win.
