Panama Claro Championship Trends

The Web.com Tour season kicks off in Panama on Thursday. We examine the trends of past Panama Claro Championship winners.

The Web.com Tour starts in Central America for the Panama Claro Championship, a regular tour event that dates back to 2004.

The Panama Golf Club plays host with a testing par-70 course. Last year only 29 players finished under par, and it was even tougher in 2012 when only six players finished in the red.

Winning trends for the last eight years:

Top-60 on tour for total driving
Five of the last eight winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour for total driving. Note there is no data for past champions Ed Loar (2012) or Fran Quinn (2010).

Top-60 on tour for birdie average
Birdies are needed to cancel out inevitable bogeys. Carlos Ortiz led the field for birdies last year and Kevin Foley made 15 birdies en route to victory in 2012, he finished the tournament on 8-under.

Top-60 on tour for birdie or better conversion
As noted above you need to make birdies to win and that means converting opportunities.

Players that fit both trends:
Rod Pampling 33/1 Bet365
Brett Stegmaier 80/1 Skybet
Martin Piller 80/1 Bet365
Harold Varner 125/1 Coral
