Open de Espana Tip: Aaron Rai

Won three times on the Challenge Tour last season and looks comfortable having made the step up in grade. Finished T9 on last start in India.

Aaron Rai enjoyed a superb 2017 season on the Challenge Tour winning three times and he’s made the step up in grade with aplomb. In his last five starts he’s finished 26-37-19-MC-9 and especially in these weaker tour events he can make his presence felt.

Jon Rahm is the class act in the field and rightly dominates the betting. Not only is he the highest ranked golfer in the field he also combined his studies and golf at Centro Nacional for two years. He will have his supporters at 7/2 but i’m worried how much the Masters took out of him.

Beyond Rahm, there is nothing for Rai to fear. He was in the top-10 for driving accuracy and GIRs at the Hero Indian Open and would have finished higher if putting better. With recent experience of closing out tournaments he could make a big noise in Spain this week. Back him at 80/1 with Coral and get 7 places at 1/5 odds.
