OHL Classic Tip: Billy Hurley III
Won for the first time on tour last year and carries that confidence into the new season. T15 in Las Vegas and one of the more accurate drivers on tour.
Billy Hurley III was one of the unexpected breakout stars of 2016 winning his first PGA tournament at the Quicken Loans National. The bookmakers don’t expect him to become a prolific winner but in this weak field he stands out.
Last week he finished T15 at the Shriners and kept the ball in play ranking ninth in driving accuracy. That wasn’t so important in Las Vegas where the rough was virtually non-existent but it matters in Mayakoba.
Hurley’s record at the OHL Classic is 46-65-23, solid rather than spectacular but that might change this week. The El Camaleon plays to his strengths; it isn’t very long but you need to be accurate and make some putts.
If Billy Hurley III gets into contention, we know he can get over the line and more importantly so does he. That could give us the edge at 125/1 (Ladbrokes).
