Holmes Under The Hammer
J.B. Holmes has four top-10s at Riviera and was going well until things unravelled on Sunday last year.
Previous winners of the Northern Trust Open have been terrific tee-to-green players and so-so putters of which J.B. Holmes falls into that category.
Last season he ranked 19th in strokes gained tee-to-green but 101st in strokes gained putting. It is therefore no surprise his record at this event is 51-7-6-3-12-8-MC-52-22.
If you consider his finishes of MC-T52 came during a period he was fighting injury and illness, it is an impressive record. Even last year’s T22 was a tale of what might have been, as he started the final round in third position.
The 33-year-old has started 2016 with finishes of T24-T6-T6-T11 and should go close again on a course that suits his game.
At 30/1 (Paddy Power) he is a cracking each-way bet with 1/5 odds for a top-7 finish.
