Genesis Open Tips: Luke List

Genesis Open Tips: Luke List

Riviera favours driving distance over accuracy and List fits the bill. Finished T20 on debut last year.

Riviera Country Club measures 7,349-yards but there is a definite advantage for distance over accuracy. Last year’s leaderboard was populated by big hitters and it’s a common thread over the past ten years. The average driving distance rank for the past ten champions is 50th, the average driving accuracy rank is 129th.

If distance is a key, even to the ruin of accuracy then Luke List must enter the equation. The 32-year-old is ranked 2nd for driving distance on tour and 163rd in accuracy. This formula is yet to deliver a win but he’s gained plenty of good results during the wraparound season. In nine starts he has 5 top-25 finishes and was runner-up at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

The Genesis Open is a step up in class but we’ve seen surprise winners before in the shape of James Hahn and John Merrick.

List finished T20 on his first look at Riviera last year, opening with a 66 and closing with a 67. It’s a course that should suit his game and he’s a big price at 225/1 (Bet365).
