Genesis Invitational Tip: Carlos Ortiz
Playing the type of golf that saw him win 3 times on the Korn Ferry Tour. Hits it high and long and record at Riviera is 20-26-9. Currently 21st in adjusted scoring average on tour.
Two starts back I was tipping up the chances of Carlos Ortiz at the Farmers Insurance Open but unfortunately he missed the cut. It wasn’t a dreadful performance by any means and i’m happy to given him a second chance after a solid T25 at the Phoenix Open.
What I wrote about him prior to Torrey Pines still stands. He is moving up the world rankings again; hits the ball high and long and is suited to a bombers course. His record at Riveria is event better than Torrey Pines with finishes of 20-26-9.
It might be a big ask to win on a such a famous course in elite company but he has the numbers to back up his finishes. He is 26th in strokes gained tee-to-green and 21st in adjusted scoring average. He should outrun his odds.
