North Mississippi Classic Tip: Billy Kennerly

Led the tour in scoring average this season and although yet to hit those same heights, he's made 5/7 cuts. Not the longest hitter and will enjoy this week's shorter course.

Billy Kennerly started the 2017 Web.com Tour with no status but by the end of the season he led the scoring average. In mitigation that came from just 14 starts but he’s already the forgotten man as far as the bookmakers are concerned.

Kennerly is not well-known (he won 2015 Canadian Amateur Championship) but he didn’t just finish past beaten golfers last season, he contended at the sharp end. The 25-year-old was runner-up at the Digital Ally Open and recorded two further top-10 finishers.

He went off the boil during the Final Series but has started to recaptured some form making 5/7 cuts this season. Last time out he finished T39 at the Savannah Golf Championship but was one poor Saturday round away from a top-10 finish.

One of the shorter but more accurate players on tour (ranked in top-10 for driving accuracy in 2017 & 2018) he should enjoy the challenge posed by the Country Club of Oxford, which only just stretches beyond 7,000 yards.
