News Sentinel Open: Drew Weaver

Leads the tour for GIRs and third in the all-around ranking. Has made the weekend in each of his last seven starts.

Drew Weaver enjoyed a strong amateur career, winning the Amateur Championship in 2007. That got him into the Masters and the Open but after missing the cut in both he disappeared.

That isn’t strictly true, Weaver turned professional in 2009 and plied his trade on the minor tours thereafter. It’s only recently that his career has kicked on but golfers develop at different rates and this could be his time.

Weaver began his 2015 season by winning the PC Financial Open on the PGA Tour Canada and despite limited status on the Web.com Tour he’s done well to cobble together three top-25s from nine starts.

A top-75 finish on the money list and a Web.com Tour card must be the aim for the 28-year-old but there is a chance he overachieves. Weaver has made his last seven cuts and finished no worse than T48. He also leads the tour in GIRs and is third in the all-around ranking, which suggests he is playing better than results indicate.

Given Weaver’s high quality ball-striking, he just needs a good week on the greens to jump up the leaderboard and Fox Den looks the ideal venue for him.
