Refreshed Stanley Back To His Best
Talent never is question but confidence has returned. Has three consecutive top-20s and plays the course well.
This week’s Nationwide Children’s Hospitals Championship is played on the fiendishly difficult Scarlet course at the Ohio State University Golf Club.
A par-71, measuring 7,455 yards it is long and difficult, with the winning score likely to be in single figures.
It is a course where quality shines through as exemplified by past champions Justin Thomas and Seung-yul Noh.
Looking through the field there is plenty of talent (Emiliano Grillo rates highly) but there are probably none better than Kyle Stanley.
The 27-year-old virtually locked up his card with a T7 finish last week but it was a tournament he could have won but for closing with three bogeys in four holes.
Stanley has bounced back before, winning the 2012 Phoenix Open having blown a three shot lead on the final hole at Torrey Pines the previous week. A tournament I’d tipped him to win at 125/1 but didn’t trade-out even when he hit 1.01 in-running.
Kyle Stanley has struggled with his game in the past couple of season but he seems to be coming back into form with three consecutive top-20s on the Web.Com Tour.
His record at OSU golf club is T66-T17-T27 and he shot 66 at the course back in 2008 in US Open qualifying.
It’s a venue that suits his game and he is a strong 2-point fancy at 22/1 (Coral).
