Nashville Open Tip: TJ Vogel

Best known for his Monday qualifying exploits on PGA Tour but more than a flash in the pan. Recorded best result of year with T9 finish last week and has played well on this tour before.

TJ Vogel seems to become something of a novelty due to his exploits via Monday qualifying. Last season he qualified for eight PGA Tour events, no mean feat but what is overlooked is that he made three cuts including a T16 finish at the Valspar.

Vogel didn’t play enough event to rank in any metrics on the PGA Tour but his numbers were recorded. His scoring average of 70.772 would have put him 87th on tour, one place ahead of Jimmy Walker!

Ignore the narrative of his Monday qualifying and you have a talented golfer, one who first appeared on my radar in 2015 when from limited starts he ranked 7th on the Web.com Tour for scoring average and 6th for total driving. This is a level were he is capable of winning and he recorded his best result of the year with a T9 finish at the Dormie Network Classic.

A final round 64 when the pressure off can be oversold but on the back of a T12 at the Savannah Golf Championship, we have a player potentially rounding into form. Ranked in the top-25 for driving distance, GIRs and birdie average suggest hos game is on song and he shouldn’t be 125/1.
